Earlier this month Kyle and I headed on a couples trip to Vegas. I went two years ago on a girls trip, but Kyle had never been to Vegas.
We booked the red-eye to and planned to leave after work on Thursday. Since our flight wasn't until almost 10 at night we had plenty of time. We got home and I finished packing (and Kyle started packing). Kyle realized I forgot to check us in and we were flying Southwest so that would affect our boarding spot. I checked us in on my phone and about 6:30 we decided to go ahead and head to the airport because we were ready. 3.5 hours early....
About 10 minutes down the road I went back into the Southwest app and noticed it said 'now boarding' next to our flight. Then I noticed our flight was moved from 9:50 to 7:15. It is likely it happened months ago but I never noticed (insert Dianna extremely mad at herself).
We raced to the airport and arrived at 7:16, parked at short term parking and planned to rebook and head home because I had already been on the phone with Southwest and this was the last flight out to Vegas that night. When we got to the ticket counter she said 'I can rebook you through Denver first but you are going to have to run.....RUN!!!!' So we did.
We ran full speed to security and the line wasn't bad and several people let us cut. And then...on the other side of security we realized that Kyle's backpack hadn't come through. The security guy was just holding it off to the side and not checking it like normal. Kyle may have (did!) loudly asked if his bag was in quarantine (with some attitude) and that made the guy mad. A female TSA got his bag and slowly walked to us. Right away it was evident she knew what happened and was going to be a pain in our ass. She talked slowly and very condescending to Kyle. His bag got stopped because he had an unopened energy drink in the pocket and forgot he couldn't bring it through (he doesn't fly often). I saw it right away and we said she could throw it away but she was going to use this as a teaching opportunity and take her sweet time.
We were finally released and raced to the Denver flight only to find out it had left 20 minutes earlier...before we ever got our tickets or even got to security. Kyle and I were dripping in sweat, out of breath, and frazzled. I was regretting skipping so many workouts lately. The agent at the desk was very nice and found us another flight through LAX. And we had 20 minutes to pee and get dinner before boarding. There was a lady that said 'aww they were the runners, they didn't make it' when we were sitting waiting for our next flight. The funny thing is that in the end we would get to Vegas 20 minutes earlier than our original flight because that flight was so late and we had gotten to the airport 'early'.
We landed in LA and thought we had 20 minutes only to hear our names called to the gate as we were peeing. We raced again to the next gate and took our 45 minute flight to Vegas.
We landed in Vegas and ubered to our hotel. David and Jen got to Vegas early Thursday morning so they were already at the hotel waiting for us. We checked in and realized that David and Jen couldn't hang and had fallen asleep. We grabbed pizza, gambled, and walked around a little before crashing around 2 am (4am Texas time). Given our crazy day that started at 5am the day before I have no clue how we had the energy to stay up but we were wired.
This is sometime around midnight when I finally realized I hadn't had time to take a single picture. The night was such a crazy one but it all worked out. Kyle was so patient with me and my mistake when he easily could have been an ass. Too bad we were racking up quite the parking bill in short term parking at the airport. Ha!
Friday morning I got this cute picture of the boys taken by Babi who stayed at our house to get them to school Friday.
And we grabbed a giant donut in our hotel to share
We stayed at New York New York and really liked it. David and Jen came down for breakfast and we ate a yummy meal at our hotel. Then we walked the strip and I got this cool picture looking back at our hotel.
In front of our hotel (please note some of these pictures were taken by Jen and for whatever reason it would distort my face sometimes...I promise it really did! see below)
After our long walk we took a nap because we only got 6 hours of sleep. Then the girls got dressed up for dinner and George Strait!
This giant ornament was outside our hotel. Pretty cool!
We ate at Bruxie, a chicken and waffles place. It was really yummy but large portions! (that tends to be the theme of our food ventures)
Kyle's chicken and waffle sandwich with a fried egg
Jen, Megan (David's half sister), and I at the concert. Megan and her boyfriend Will were also in Vegas with us but they stayed at a different hotel so we didn't always see them.
The concert was amazing. George is old enough to be my father but he has aged well and did not disappoint. It was just him, his guitar, and his band but it was great! He sang the whole time which is amazing for his age and how many artists lip-sync at least some of their concerts.
Saturday morning we went to Hash House A Go Go and it was sooo yummy! Of course once again the portions were too big.
Saturday night we were going to Freemont street but first we needed to take our 'willy wonka picture' (the grandparents that share a bed). This started a couple of trips ago as a joke. This picture is not easy to get and always has us laughing so hard we are crying.
Then we got on the bus and headed downtown (next time we will uber because it took too dang long!)
And somehow we always find an Indian for Jen to pose with (see more here)
We were going to eat at Heart Attack Café but once we walked in we just weren't feeling it. Instead we ate at a pub and got a variety of appetizers...again too much food!
Sunday morning we ate at a different spot in our hotel and we saw this giant 3-D map of the U.S. We looked up at that map a lot thinking about where our next trip might be.
Then we grabbed Starbucks and planned to take the bus to the Welcome to Vegas sign but instead walked there. It took a while to get there but the weather was great so we didn't mind.
Then we grabbed a drink and a snack while we waited for the bus back to our hotel
At some point I won $23 on a slot and several times I did well at the black jack tables, but several times I didn't sooo I came out a loser but not too bad. Kyle had NO luck gambling and wasn't a fan. He watched me play or people watched.
The boys spent the weekend with my parents and had so much fun. I enjoyed getting some pics from Babi!
Sunday night we had dinner plans and on the way watched the Fountains at Bellagio.
We ate at Carmine's, a family style Italian place. The food was pretty good but also pretty expensive. It was fun to try.
Monday morning we packed up and headed to the airport. All 3 couples were on different flights so we did our own thing. Here we are on time and ready to get back to Texas.
We had a great trip to Vegas. David and Jen have been multiple times and love it. Kyle and I enjoyed ourselves, but now that we have seen it would prefer to go somewhere new.
