Weekend Recap 11/14-11/16

We met Uncle David and Aunt Jen Jen at Moe's Southwest Grill for dinner that Friday night.  The boys were wild and I think it reminded us why we don't eat out as often right now.  I tell myself that this phase will pass.

We went to Ennis that Saturday and someone needed to wear his cowboy hat!

Casen signing please for something

I just love this picture with that smile.

Before heading to Ennis we ran to Dick's Sporting Goods and we just had to play in the tents.

We stopped by the house to check the progress.

After Halloween my mom bought some fun dress up clothes and costumes.  Cooper loves this thing!

Sunday Cooper took Casen around the townhouse for a four wheeler ride!

He thinks his big brother is so cool

Things Cooper Says

We were standing by a ditch in our new neighborhood-
Mommy, I want to go down this hill.  It is muddy down there and there is water. But I don't know because it is very steep.

On the way home from school one day my in-laws were coming to watch the boys for a bit-
C- are you going to stay at our house?
M- No, we are going to go somewhere.
C- Awww, why? We love you. We want you to stay!

He is big into reading maps and 'constructions (means instructions).  He likes to tell us which way to go or what to do.

He recently learned about Inja Turtles.  Sometimes he even jumps, kicks, runs around playing ninja turtles.  He must have learned that at school.

A month or so ago he kept saying 'yesteryear' instead of the other day.

His new teachers in room 6 worked a lot on polite responses. These are some of the things he would say-
I'm fine, thank you.
You may turn on my show now.
Thank you, I'm fine.

Today I asked him if he was ready to get up from nap and he said 'ummm kinda yes I want to get up.  Or I asked if he was thirsty and he said 'kinda yes,'  Not sure where he picked that up.

He likes to tell me things he learns at school like-
Birds eat bugs (with a very dramatic voice) But we don't eat bugs! Yuck!

We were reading a Halloween book with an owl in it and he stopped me to say 'owls are nocturnal. And bats are nocturnal, but cats are not nocturnal.'  I remember seeing on his school paper they had learned about nocturnal animals that week.

We walked into school a few weeks ago and Cooper promptly and loudly announced 'Casen pooped in the bathtub!' The teachers and other parents all got a good laugh.

One night during prayers Cooper told me that Willoughby (a classmate) wasn't his friend anymore because Willoughby screamed at him.  It made me laugh that we have already entered that stage of people not being our friends anymore.

One morning I was putting socks on Cooper and we had this conversation-
M- Ouch
C- What happened mommy?
M- I scratched my finger on your toenail
C- Well my feet are very dangerous (and it was said very matter of factly like I should have known better and been more careful)

One night Cooper was stalling before bed time-
C- Mommy, do you want to read one book or two books.
M- How about zero books because it is past your bedtime.
C- But mommy, zero means none.
M- yes, you are right.
C- No, mommy. We need to read one or two books.
(He got to read one)

And best of all he has learned the Hail Mary however he confused some of the words in the beginning. He might think it is about fruit.  And for some reason he calls it 'my Jesus prayer' when he wants to say the Hail Mary.

Hail Mary, full of grapes. Your Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among lemons and blessed is the FRUIT of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, prayer for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

**********

Sweet Casen isn't verbal yet but he still cracks us up.  Today we visited the new day-care.  I shook the director's hand and introduced myself and then Kyle did the same.  When she turned to Casen he walked right up to her with his hand extended and shook her hand.  It was so cute. I wish I had caught it on camera.  He is definitely my outgoing one.

Okay, I guess that is enough for now.  Most of these probably aren't that funny to you all, but I want to remember them. My boys are growing up so fast and I always think I will remember these things forever, but I know that isn't true.

Turkey Trot 2014

Wednesday evening I saw this on my countdown.

I was feeling anxious and nervous, but we were working on packing so that helped distract me.

Thursday morning Kyle's alarm went off at 5 and I couldn't go back to sleep.  I was feeling anxious.  I ate a granola bar and watched some tv.  Before heading to the race I picked up donuts for the boys since our fridge and pantry were pretty bare.

I got to the race super early so I sat in my car and made a running playlist.  Recently I discovered the song below when in the car with Kyle.  I don't even know what the song is about (so if it is inappropriate I am sorry) but it pumps me up!

My playlist also included- Shake it Off, Blank Space, Turn Down for What, Timber, Here I am Lord, I will choose Christ, I Would Die For That, Move Shake Drop.  I know it is a weird mix but when I started training I had only a handful of songs on my phone and several of them were the Christian songs.  I really loved hearing those as I ran and needed a pep talk/prayer. In fact one of my hashtags during training was #peptalksandprayers.  Thursday morning I felt I needed some up beat, fast pace songs to keep my pace fast as well.

My before race selfie

We did the race with a timed chip therefore we got to be in the front of the group.  There were still a lot of people in front of us but here you can see the hundreds behind us.

Tiffany has always been a faster runner than I am so I told her before the race not to worry about sticking with me.  The gun sounded and after about 45 seconds she was ahead of me.  After about half a mile I could tell that my pace wasn't right.  The other runners and my loud music were distracting me.  My phone was in a running band so I didn't take the time to fix it, but I was wishing I hadn't turned it up.  But I relaxed and got in my zone.  The first two miles were okay even with two hills.  However the third hill was tough.  I could feel my calves getting tight.

Throughout the race I felt emotional thinking about how I set a goal, trained for this, and was actually running in my first 5k race.  It felt so good.  I am realizing more and more lately how stubborn I am (I know everyone around me has known it for years).

As I approached the finish line I got teary-eyed and started my sprint.  I saw Tiffany right away and we hugged with excitement.  We were both so excited at our accomplishment.

Here is my post-run selfie

My initial estimate on run time was 30:33.  On Friday I went to the website to check and it said 29:59.  Unfortunately when I went back to the site to get the picture for this post it was updated to 30:26.  Still a great time.  My previous run at home was around 32 minutes so I improved quite a bit, but I liked the 29:59 better.

After the race I met up with the Distler kids that I watched while in college.  Look how little I am!  They are 5'10, 6'0, and 5'8! I can't believe how grown up they are.  It was great catching up with them and I hope to see them again soon.  I would love to introduce Cooper and Casen to them.

After the race all I wanted was Chickfila chicken minis.  On the way I remembered it was Thanksgiving day and they weren't open. I settled for a coke and flaming hot fritos.  Breakfast of champions right there!

I sent this picture to Tiffany asking if I was allowed to wear it all day.  I ate breakfast in it but then traded it for a much needed shower and some comfy clothes.

I am definitely looking forward to my next race and hope that Kyle might join me.  I am taking December off, but need to start looking for a race in January.  I am too busy this week to run, but hopefully will make time next week.

Weekend recap

On Friday after work we met my mom with the boys.  My parents watched the boys for the weekend so Kyle and I could pack for our move this week.

We got this sweet picture of Casen wearing slipper socks so he wouldn't slip on their stained concrete.  Apparently they only lasted about 30 seconds.  But are we surprised? I really love this cheesy grin.

My mom has a little Dora doctor set at her house and Cooper loves to give check-ups.  Grandaddy got a check-up and a Dora bandaid.

The boys got to stay up late and play.  My mom let Cooper watch cartoons and she accidentally fell asleep. She woke up after 11:00 to see that Cooper was still watching cartoons!

Here they enjoyed breakfast in bed with Grandaddy while also playing with army jeeps, tanks, and helicopters.

Cooper and Babi made cookies

And then the boys played 'in the boat'.  My parents bought these awesome little air mattresses that are perfect for the kids.  They don't fall out of the bed and can be stored away.  On the way to meet my mom on Friday Cooper said that Grandaddy would get his boat ready.  Of course Grandaddy took care of his boy.

I was told this sword fight did not last long, but it looks like it got intense!

Casen was quarantined to Babi's room while Cooper napped and he didn't like it. Someone has started throwing fits lately.

To keep him occupied she let him take a bath.

Then Cooper joined when he woke up.

Then they gave Babi a spa pedicure! This picture made Kyle and I laugh.

Casen got in trouble at one point and had to sit with Grandaddy for timeout.

Sunday morning they enjoyed cereal and cartoons in Babi and Grandaddy's bed until church.

Or until someone spilled his cereal : )

After church my parents met us at the new house.  Both boys fell asleep and as soon as they saw us they cried.  They didn't want to go home with mommy and daddy.

We are just so lucky to have grandparents so close and so willing to help us out.  Kyle and I got so much time and really enjoyed the time together.

You're killing me smalls!

Isnt' he adorable?

But did you notice something?

He isn't wearing shoes or socks! It is 30 something degrees outside and my kid takes his socks and shoes off every time he gets in the car.

Below is what he did when I asked him wear his socks were.

Then he avoided eye contact. He didn't want to answer the question.

Casen has been doing this for over a month now and it drives Kyle and I insane.  At first it was annoying, but not a huge deal.  It was actually funny hearing him grunt as he struggled to get the sock off of his fat little feet. Or giggle in excitement as he got it off.  Now it is so cold outside that he needs them back on.  Poor Cooper is shivering next to me on the sidewalk with teeth chattering as I put Casen's socks and shoes back on.  And it really isn't that simple...

You see my child thinks it is fun to suck on, sit on, or throw his socks.  Today on the way to work something hit my shoulder and I looked over to see a sock.  I often have to search the entire car for his appropriate footwear.  And when I ask him where his other sock is he responds with a giggle or sly smile.  I finally find it underneath him where it is soggy with slobber!

So lately I find the socks and shoes as fast as possible and we just race into day-care with naked feet.  I feel like parents are judging me and sometimes I say something like 'let's hurry inside because you don't have shoes on.  You think it is fun to take them off.' But they probably still judge. I probably would!

This week I have considered putting gloves or mittens on him to hinder his footwear extraction efficiency, however he would have a tough time eating his morning graham cracker with his fingers covered.  I am hoping once we move the short commute will not give him time to remove his shoes and socks.  But if you see me racing down 875 don't judge.  I am just trying to drive faster than my child can remove his footwear.

I'm a runner!

Yesterday I told you all that I was going to push myself with my run and guess what...

I ran the full 5k! And it wasn't even that hard.  I really could have run further. I was so excited for making my goal.  Now I feel super motivated and excited for the Turkey Trot. I knew I would be able to do it and likely could have done it weeks ago.  But now I know that I am capable and will do fine in my first race.  This is a great feeling knowing that my next 9 days are going to be pretty hectic as we prepare to move.

I had a huge runner's high after the run and just felt great.  I am a little sore today but nothing I can't handle.

I shared the picture above on Facebook and got a message from one of the girls I babysat for while I was in college.  She will be at the Turkey Trot and wants to meet up.  I should also get to see her sister and brother.  I haven't seen them in about 6 years.  They are now about 14, 16, and 18.  And their mom, Anne said that the youngest is 5'10''!! Umm what!?! You mean she isn't 4 years old anymore?

We exchange Christmas cards each year and recently found them on Facebook.  I hate that we lost touch over the past 6 years and am so excited to see them.

I have been using instagram and hashtags more since I have been running.  My hashtags on the above picture were #everydayimhustlin #turkeytrot2014 #so pumped.  Now my sister Melisa has started using hashtags and commented #mysisterwilloutrunmeifsomeoneischasingus  I laughed out loud at this.  It made me think of the saying 'you don't have to be the fastest. You just don't want to be the slowest.' It also made me think of how many times my sisters and I have said 'Johnson girls don't run.' Now one of us does! Okay I am done bragging.

After my run Kyle brought the car seats inside for us to take pictures. We are getting them replaced after the accident. This little guy decided to buckle himself up.

Excuse the messy face.  Daddy gave him chocolate covered pretzels. But isn't he cute? I think he has my eyes (haha)

It's getting closer....

So after I did this post I had a bad feeling.  Sure enough last Wednesday we got a message from the builder saying closing may be delayed to December 1st.  My heart sank reading that message and I REALLY didn't want to tell Kyle.  We were REALLY set on closing November 25th and moving November 28th.  It worked perfect with us and family already being off work.  Then have Saturday and Sunday to unpack and get settled.  We had already schedule the uhaul trucks.  Oh and I had already setup our start date with the new day-care (speaking of I need to work on our packet for the new day-care).

The good news is that we went by the house on Saturday and it looks great!  We spoke to the builder and we are back on track (not sure if we were ever really off track or if it was a miscommunication, but I didn't ask because I don't really care).

That means we have 8 sleeps until we close and 10 sleeps until we move!

Yesterday we ordered a new dining room table and chairs so we are checking things off of the list.  Our old table was a big square that seated 8 and won't fit in the new house.  Plus it wasn't a smooth surface and wasn't a realistic table with two kiddos.  It was never used in the old house for those reasons.

This weekend my parents are keeping the boys so Kyle and I can be lean mean packing machines!

Also, it is 9 sleeps until the Turkey Trot. Last Tuesday I ran 2.75 miles and I easily could have run 3.  For some reason I don't push myself that far.  I have these little goals and I go no further.  I think a little part of me doesn't want to run the full 5k until the big day.  If I wasn't playing this silly mind game I think I could have run the full 5k at least a week or two ago.  But I have changed my mind and tonight I am going to push myself as far as possible and see how far I go.  Wish me luck!
